Gazet van Antwerpen reveals design premetro stations

The design for Antwerp’s premetro stations are revealed in today’s newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen.

The premetro network of Flemish Transport Company De Lijn, as envisaged in the 1970s and 1980s, will be completed. The tunnel under Kerkstraat and Pothoekstraat will be put into use and four unfinished stations will be completed and provided with entrances. GROUP A, archipelago from Leuven and Tractebel, have drawn up the plans for finishing the premetro.

Light, air and space are guiding principles of the design of the premetro network in Antwerp.

The main challenge is to translate the existing ‘concrete hardware’ from the 1970s and 1980s into the present. The aim is to realize stations that are inviting, recognizable and socially safe, with a design that does justice to the unique character of the city of Antwerp.
