Urban8 Breaks Ground

On 8 July, construction officially commenced on Urban8. Together with client ELFI, the construction team and project partners, we celebrated this important milestone in the ongoing development of the Merwedekanaalzone in Utrecht.

As architect and coordinating designer, GROUP A collaborated with BETA , ZOETMULDER and Burobol to design an urban block where housing, shared amenities and sustainable mobility are seamlessly integrated.

Urban8 (Merwede B11 Kavel 1) comprises 171 homes and features a green communal courtyard, an active ground floor with shared facilities, and a mobility hub serving several residential blocks in the northern part of the Merwedekanaalzone. With shared mobility services, parcel facilities, a parking garage and space for 1,332 bicycles, the project contributes to the creation of a low-car, sustainable and future-oriented urban neighbourhood.

The start of construction marks another significant step in the transformation of the Merwedekanaalzone into a vibrant mixed-use district where living, social interaction and sustainable mobility come together.

We would like to thank ELFI and all project partners for their trust and the enjoyable collaboration throughout the design and preparation process. We look forward to seeing Urban8 take shape in the years ahead.
