Working on the qualities of The Hague Southwest
Greetje van den Nouweland
In September Platform STAD organised STADatelier ‘Stedelijke verbindingen Den Haag Zuidwest’ (CITY atelier ‘Urban connections The Hague Southwest’). Today The Hague Southwest is in the spotlight. The area is one of the focus areas of ‘het college voor verdichting’, a department of the Municipality of The Hague.
The 5th of October Platfrom STAD published an article, about the problems of Southwest. Which used to be a lively neighborhood with many young families and middle class. Nowadays the neighborhood faces a variety of social-economic issues. The Hague Southwest is longing for a new perspective for the future.
Three design teams worked on the urban densification issues of Southwest and designed a high-quality urban carrier. Our urban designer Greetje van den Nouweland worked together with Geoffrey Eberle (BOLD collective), Gerben Helleman (Stadslente / Haagwonen) and Jasper Spigt (architecten van Mourik) on research area Meppelweg.
On the 11th of October the group presented in STADgesprek ‘Ontwerpen aan verbinding voor Den Haag Zuidwest’ (CITY talk ‘Designing connections for The Hague Southwest’) the project: Meppelweg wordt Meppelpark. (Meppelweg transforms into Meppel Park)
Outcomes and findings, all projects.
