Interview in innovation catalogue 2024

The Innovation catalogue 2024 of Stedebouw & Architectuur addresses reducing material-related emissions in an interview with Norbert Schotte and Willem van Genugten.

Making and applying building materials generates a lot of CO2 emissions, but the construction industry still barely steers this. Despite the climate crisis, acting minister Hugo de Jonge is leaving this issue (and flaw) untouched. Despite the absence of a CO2 requirement, the movement initiated by the sector is not discontinued. Many frontrunners are working daily to reduce their material-related emissions and will continue this irrevocably. However, it is disappointing that a CO2 requirement is not forthcoming, because in a norm-following sector this could have meant an extra push for the use of climate-positive materials. Meanwhile, Dutch architects are looking eagerly at the achievements of French architects.
